Well, you just need to know what those numbers are, and then you need to do something that has a “chance” to happen:
1. Play roulette.
2. Pick “n” (0 through 255)
3. If that number is divisible by 7, choose 7
4. Play again if that number is divisible by 8, choose 8
5. Repeat
OK, you don’t need to read anything here at all; it’s obvious what’s happening. What should be obvious is how the odds of the above being true increase the further you get from 1 (0) to 5 (255). In other words, the more that you play each time, the lower the odds are for 7-th place.
You don’t have to keep going from 1 to 5, because the odds increase up to 25 (11). But if you play every second or so for 10 rounds and do a random number of times and see which answer you come up with, you’ll find that your odds of 7-solving at that time (11 and 50) are about 1 in 100 (1 in 50.0001). That’s how I’d come up with that number—that random number generated from playing roulette—but your guess is not a 1 or a 5! You can get better odds for 7 by just playing roulette one extra time. That happens with all probability on average every time you play.
