It’s about 3 to 7 years. If you are a student, a lot of people can be in and out of the game.
There are certain things in particular that you see in graffiti like the use of white spray paint or spray cans with black paint. How much of that is you and how much of that is the general public?
Yes I have done graffiti, but it was done much earlier than I did – like in the ’90s before I did a lot of it.
Do you enjoy seeing it from the perspective of a police officer?
I was really lucky when I did it that I got invited to the [Los Angeles] LAPD’s Gang Enforcement Unit to join the investigation, which was so cool.
What’s the best part about being a graffiti artist?
It’s one of the few things where I feel like I have so much freedom to express myself, even though I don’t live in a big city yet.
You were in two songs on Weezer’s new album, “Green,” which was released this week. Which song would you be most happy to see played live?
That one is in the top 3 because everybody at our show loved it very much.
What was your favorite part about working on a Weezer song?
I always wanted to create my own song. I was always so in the moment that I didn’t even want to think about the song or what it would sound like live, so I just wanted to use whatever I could find because I didn’t really feel comfortable thinking about the song before every time I played it!
Have you ever done a parody or something similar on your graffiti pieces? If so, what was it?
The one thing I have was the one where we say, “Lazy” in Spanish and we are driving from Anaheim to LAX.
Why is it so hard for you to do graffiti?
My main problem is that there isn’t a ton of space out here, and since I live in LA, I only really get the most space between places I can find, so it’s a really hard space because of how we get there, etc.
We’re not even close to the beach because the police officers are so afraid of how people will take pictures, so you’re always in the back of the street.
