The basic concept is simple. You need to have a good grasp of how to dance on stage. This doesn’t mean you should follow the rules, of course; many times the rules can be broken, and even made a little flexible. Also remember that most of the time when you see someone dancing, they don’t necessarily know how to dance. The basics are all you need—and if you have to ask “But what about this?” that’s also fine. Don’t rush into something that you don’t know how to do.
Dance on stage is the same as dancing off-stage, however; you need to practice your dance routines before you put it to the stage. This is done by watching and studying the way dancers move, practicing with your partner on a regular basis, and, of course, practicing with your partner after the show is over.
How are you expected to learn how to dance on-stage? I don’t want to make people get frustrated, but first you have a choice. If that feels too daunting, you could always ask a professional or coach for help. But even for inexperienced performers, there is plenty of resources out there. Check out these resources:
If you are trying to learn how to dance, the first step is to learn a routine. This is simply the dance routine you learned how to move in high school or college, and it should always be in the same order or form. Then, if you are interested in learning the technique, you can check out our Beginners Guide to Dance Lessons.
The first day with the music can be the most awkward, exciting, and exhilarating, but it is also the first time you will be exposed to new music styles, moves, and emotions. It is also the last time you will be able to see what all others are doing, as you will be taking the steps in order to learn how to dance (or do something else), and at the end it all will be over. As long as your choreographer is able to follow the rules and give you a good time, the day will go by quickly.
Of all the elements of dance to master, this is the one that will take the most time in order to truly fully enjoy dancing. The choreographer will be working overtime to make sure your experience feels comfortable, enjoyable and enjoyable.
