In a stunning turn of events, CNN’s Van Jones appeared on his radio show Tuesday to promote Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN). While many liberals are upset with Ellison, they are also trying to rally behind the congressman and to stop Donald Trump from appointing him to be a member of the Supreme Court.
Before appearing on his radio show, Jones appeared on CNN and said that he hoped Ellison would receive the support of progressives. But he also went on to bash President Trump and suggested that Ellison was no different than Trump or even Hillary Clinton.
“In 2016, Trump, Trump had the luxury of not having to worry about Bernie Sanders. Hillary Clinton in the primaries said that she had never really been on his list, that she hadn’t even met him, and then finally he said that he had met him, and we all know that she wasn’t right,” Jones recounted. “He said that he’d met him and he got that it was so exciting. I thought that that didn’t matter to him. But I’ve come to question that and I’ll tell you why: I believe in the principle that progressives, that we can have no tolerance for these people, these corporate Republicans or just these people at the top, that there has to be a fundamental difference of view about how to proceed.”
Jones then said that Ellison should continue his fight with Trump, but he should not do so as if he were a “good person” and should do it as if he were a “bad person.”
“Keith Ellison isn’t a good person. He is a radical Muslim from Minnesota who says things when he was a congressman that I think are hateful, hateful, and dangerous. So I believe that his heart is in the right place, but he needs to be careful and he needs to be cautious, and he needs to be respectful to all the people who are involved with what he’s saying.
