Well saffron is a yellow flower that’s native to Egypt. But, just by having the right strain, it can be eaten by the people there. If you look over the internet, it’s all over the place. I’ve seen it in a lot of places from New York to Europe. It’s a very potent color as well as having a very light aroma.
I read somewhere that I couldn’t eat the flower because the alcohol level of the flower was too high. So, I don’t know. I have a lot of plants over there.
M: What’s important for your company and how do you approach getting customers excited about it?
S: I’ve heard a lot of good things. From the customers, it makes them feel good because they appreciate the effort and the effort they put into each product. I’ve had a lot of positive comments. I guess not all, but a lot of people have told me to stop.
I don’t understand the reaction. It’s not something you’re supposed to take a chance on. A lot of people are upset with me. They feel like I made the product too expensive to afford, for a grown man. And not something I should have made. As a grown man, I should not be wasting his time.
M: So, in that respect, what prompted you to make a product for a man?
S: Well, I have a lot of people on social media who don’t like me, so I feel like I gotta make a statement. I want to show them I can do what I would normally do and do it right. I’m not an artist—I’m not a designer! I can’t do it the way I want to.
It’s an experience for him. He’s getting a taste to see what he’s missing. When he puts in the effort, I can show him what I’ve created over here, right here in South Africa.
M: And do you believe that if you had been designing your own clothing line and had done it correctly?
S: I think that would’ve been another route. A lot of people don’t understand me and think I’m an artist, so I think they see my work and think that I’m not.
But I’ve never done it wrong. I know the right way to do it. And I do feel so confident and positive for how I think about this and the way I think about my customers.
