Saffron has also been alleged to have several health benefits, including aiding the production of a hormone called cortisol that regulates appetite. It’s a natural stimulant and it can also improve your mood, energy levels and memory.
All of these claims are supported by a well-known science journal, which has conducted two clinical studies with saffron in healthy people.
Saffron is also rich in zinc – a mineral with an important role in our digestive system. According to the Nutrition Center of Punjab, an organization that fights against over the last 50 years of malnutrition in the State of Punjab, zinc deficiency is a serious medical problem that afflicts millions of children and women.
In a study that tested the effect of saffron and zinc, researchers observed that zinc deficiency affected a person’s performance. In addition to reducing the symptoms of zinc deficiency, saffron increased mental performance and it could also relieve mood disorders in individuals.
The most impressive claim about saffron is that it aids digestion and provides antioxidants in the digestive system.
“Cilantro is known to be rich in the antioxidants vitamin C and ascorbic acid, which promote intestinal health and maintain smooth digestion,” said Dr. Muhammad Akhar from the Rajasthan Research Cell Foundation on September 15 at a discussion hosted by Islamic Center Research Centre of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (ICRCK).
“I found that saffron is a very beneficial nutrient in digestion, especially if you are diabetic,” said Dr. Akhar. “I found that it also enhances oral health and protects against disease related to the digestive system.”
