How many saffron threads are in a gram? – Planting Saffron Crocus

When you boil a piece of saffron, the threads are cut, and in doing so, the entire saffron plant will be broken up so that when the saffron is dried the threads in the plant will be left behind.

If you want to get the best flavor, saffron threads should be ground with a mortar and pestle. That way, you do not have to worry about the threads, making it easy to grind them up to make a paste and then use that to season the saffron. I use a mortar and pestle, too, to make an unglazed paste for coating saffron that may eventually be used to wrap the saffron leaf.

I found an interesting technique for the threads to remain clean. For saffron stalks that get really sticky, all that is needed is an ordinary plastic knife in order to scrape the threads with its tip. If you are unsure if you will be going to grind the saffron with an ordinary knife, I think you should make a small amount of paste and place the knife in the paste. When you are done, rinse out the knife, and you’ll be good to go.

How often should you water your saffrons?

I like to water my saffron plants regularly. They are so much happier when water is continually flowing through their root system. I will tell you that the leaves will change color when water is continuously flowing through them, too.

If you water your saffron every day, then the leaves will start off gray, and then they’ll turn white as the water gets lower and lower. That will be the time when you should water more often. If you don’t care to water them at that time, then water them a few times a week. I never have to water them every day. But if you do, watering twice a week will make it difficult for the leaves to get dry.

Do saffron leaves need an occasional “dry” in order for them to get evenly dehydrated?

No, saffron leaves don’t need any special dehydrator to dry completely. Even if you do have a dehydrator in a small room, such as a closet, you should not have a dehydrator in there as it could dry out the leaves.

In dry weather, the leaves should be dry until the next dry day, then a quick rinse is all that’s needed. It’s not really necessary
