Most people assume that pole dancing is something that is only taught to some elite, rich people. I’m here to tell you that you have to be serious about learning pole dancing or you’ll never make it. I once studied pole dancing for two years before my parents saw the potential in the sport at the age of 18 and enrolled me into the National Ballet School, also in Paris. I took lessons with the best dancers in the place: the legendary Leopoldo, the legendary Máteilé, and of course, Leopoldo. I trained at the famous gym in the Parisian Quarter and my training included some very difficult pole-to-pole routines which would not leave an impression on even the best of dancers.
My parents and I started to prepare my new dance for international competitions like the “Paris Dance Exposition” and I was sent for training with some of the top dancers from all over the world. Some people like to compare my career with that of Marlon Brando, who was also one of the best in pole dancing.
Did you start learning the arts from a young age?
I started to dance lessons from when I was six years old. When I was 10 years old I started to dance at home, which was a lot harder than at my school. But it also helped me to have a better understanding of how movements worked because it helped me to develop skills quickly.
What was the first pole you learned? Any good examples from pole dancing?
I have already gone through two major traditions: the Béisne Dance Institute, and the Ballet school of the same name. I learned most recently about the Béisne, and since that I’ve learned most of my dances from Ballet School. In my opinion, pole dancing is one of the most fun, exciting places to learn to dance, which I think is one of the key factors that makes it so popular. Ballet School has an amazing selection of dance sequences and rhythms which are fun to learn. My Béisne teachers also gave me lessons, especially in regard to the technical points.
What advice do you have for the young dancer?
Practice makes perfect! The same principle applies to pole dancing. It’s all about practicing and working on your skills, and learning how to make yourself comfortable at a particular tempo. It’s not a requirement to learn pole dancing as we do ballet, but you need to know it’s good for you and
