I use a product called Dixie Green on most of my acrylic pieces. It does have some drawbacks, though, as I’m sure most of you are aware. It can lead to a lot of discoloration, but the process of drying out and getting the paint back to its normal state isn’t as painless.
Does it dry clean?
You know what makes it hard to do that? The acrylic has an emulsion in it! This means any air that doesn’t go through the emulsion comes out of the paint and settles on the surface. You end up getting a lot of paint residue that can end up with scratches and scuff marks, and it can lead to a bunch of other problems.
Why did we pick black?
You’re probably wondering why we went with black. This is because we got a lot of feedback about the color. On the Kickstarter site, you guys asked for blue, green, yellow, orange and magenta. But because I couldn’t really find other options, I went back to black.
What is a dry-cleaning kit?
In the interest of simplicity: a dry-cleaning kit includes: a small airbrush pump, a cleaning cloth, some paint, cotton pads, and a bottle of clean water (and a hose, if you have one). I was pretty surprised when I saw the kit in my mailbox, though. I thought it was just a box of paint and paint brushes!
Do I need to know what color I want?
Not really. But if you want a different color than we’ll be printing on the piece, the small kit is enough.
How big are these blocks?
The average box of 4-5 blocks is about 13 cm x 13 cm x 15 cm. That’s quite a bit, but what does it really mean? I know a lot of you asked “How much is this going to cost?” Luckily, the costs and production schedule have been finalized. It’ll be the same cost as the large acrylic pieces we usually print, which is $12 per block. We haven’t finalized the packaging yet, but it will be a box, which means it’ll cost about $5 to make one, and about $3-$4 to ship it to you.
