Do you wet the brush before using acrylic paint? – Online Art Lessons For Homeschoolers

I usually drybrush or spray the acrylic. It’s not the same as painting, except I usually spray first to give the paint more time to dry and a smoother touch.

I don’t know if acrylic spray is used for the paint, but I would assume so. I’ve never seen acrylic paint before…

Does acrylic paint dry quicker than oil based paints??

Absolutely (with the exception of the last picture, in the past I’ve done oil paints with acrylic and the process was longer).

Are there any drawbacks of acrylic paint over oil paints?

No, no drawbacks. A very similar process (if you only know oil paint) is to wash the surface of the painting with clear nail polish. There are some small differences: oil paints (and acrylics) need to be rinsed, whereas acrylics do not.

If you apply acrylic paint directly onto the brush, the surface will not fully dry when you spray it, because the surface is already wet/caked, but will absorb the paint with sufficient water to make wet application even easier. Also, acrylic paint is less likely to get chipped after painting.

Also, there are more ways to paint and less ways to use acrylic: acrylic paint is harder to work with (if you want to use larger brush, you’ll need a larger paintbrush), and more acrylic paints come in different colours: a single colour can take up a lot of paint, as opposed to oils which are more likely to use a single colour. Acrylic paint will tend to be duller, hence not as good for highlighting and other details. If you want to paint heavily with one colour, you might want to look at the lighter colours: see here for more on that (and for advice on how to apply colours in one colour – it’s a bit like using a darker polish for a lighter shine).

In summary, if paint is what you want, and you can handle it with confidence, if you want to do nails with acrylic paint, it’s a good idea to get familiar with it before trying anything more aggressive, you’ll never be as good as a pro, and you will be doing many things to your nails that aren’t essential to a good manicure.

It’s been a good three days since the election. I feel like I just did something important by sitting in traffic to keep everyone in my seat, and have done so without even a single complaint. I’m not sure what I’ve learned
