The man who is accused of opening fire in a mosque in a Florida mosque is from Afghanistan and has been known to carry around “Islamic State propaganda.”
Mohamad Khan Rahim, 24, was charged in a criminal complaint obtained by ABC News. Rahim is the son of an imam and his father immigrated to the U.S. from Afghanistan in 1980.
Rahim was ordered held without bond and was scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday
On Friday, the day before it was due to close, the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Kissimmee, Florida was put on lockdown after he allegedly opened fire through an upstairs doorway, wounding five people before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer. He is accused of entering the building at gunpoint, shooting the officers, wounding two more and then fleeing the scene.

An FBI spokesperson said in a statement the FBI “is aware of the criminal complaint filed in connection with this matter and will provide any appropriate assistance as it is appropriate.”
The mosque’s leader, Omar Mir Seddique, told local news station WTSP he’s been on the phone with law enforcement since the incident happened.
It is unclear if and when the FBI will be able to interview him.
The mosque is located next to the town hall in Kissimmee.
The Orlando Sentinel newspaper reports Rahim was killed in the shootout with the police.
