I mean, is it a full figure look, like in ’60s Hollywood movies?”
“No, I don’t have any of that kind of style in me. I’m just like, ‘This is how it was!'”
How do you dress like a 1920s movie star?
For the most part, she wore her hair up. “And I had a ’30s look, where I had a braid at the back of each ear.” In the ’30s, when she was a kid, she wore her hair long. “And I would just make my hair up, put a bandanna around it, and make it all a hairband, just like a hair stylist would do to ’30s movie stars. You know? [She then pulled back the bandanna.] And then people were like, ‘No, no, no, you shouldn’t have a braid!’ … And I was like, ‘I know, but, I was just thinking that I need to look like a ’30s flapper.'”
But she is an avid reader — “I’m a huge collector” — and she also has a pet dog named Buster, who she keeps inside a crate “like a pet rat” and makes all the bedtime stories a big part of her life. “Yeah, Buster would really help me, ’cause that’s what I love doing with him is he would just read to me in the morning and he’d go to bed with me.”
A very funny “Mad Men” fan.
What is it with these people who read “Mad Men”?
“And, you know, that’s me, man.”
And they don’t read it, just watch it.
“Yeah, it’s just sort of like these people that are into ‘Mad Men’ and they really see it as the real thing.”
It’s been a big year for fashion, and what’s next for the show in 2013?
“This year we’re going to make some major changes. We’re getting rid of the runway show. We’re going to start working with an artist that we met through the show this year, and we’re going to work with her on the show this year!”
“Just the work that we do and what we’re going to do.”
