Do you draw a straight line on the ground or do you start from one end and start going across as you go? That’s where it all stops. I didn’t start to draw the front of my car until I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted.
I had a good idea of what I wanted—so from that point on I just started to draw it up based on that picture. I didn’t know where the car would end up, so I had a pretty good idea. It was very cool! There were things that I wrote down during the process that I thought would be really fun, and then at the end, you just go, “oh, that’s pretty cool.” It was like a movie that I had to watch to be able to look the way I did. That’s where the movie and the film, I guess, came together. I didn’t actually start to do the drawing until I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted.
As an actor, what’s your biggest tip for aspiring screenwriters?
You have to give yourself enough time. You’ve got to give yourself enough time, because there’s a lot of stuff that you don’t understand until you’ve done it a thousand times. For me, I feel that this whole script thing is very challenging. If you haven’t had any experience doing it, then I don’t think that you are going the right or the proper way. I’m just telling you this, it’s just so interesting that you have been in movies before and you’ve been the star. All of these things that you’ve done before, what you know as an actor, it’s that little thing in the back of your head that you didn’t know was there even until you went in to do this.
I feel like there is no such thing and that is one of the things that helps make people work. You need to have a few hours on set before you start shooting and get to know each other—but also, it’s going to be the most fun because you’re not going to know what you’re going to do. You’re going to be a kid. You’re going to be really open to the things that you do. You just have to put in as much time and work as you can because it’s such a fun thing to do.
What is your biggest fear?
I have never had a fear about a physical part. I still haven’t…that’s an interesting question. I
