How do two people work together on a sketch? I think you should be doing that to yourself! What we’re able to do is use your intuition on how to put the pieces together that you’ve been sketching. That’s exactly what you should be doing.
That’s the kind of thing you need to get out of your way. If you can put it off, you need to. You might not need to worry about it until you have an idea that’s completely off-track. I would hope that once you’ve got an idea or two that you’re happy with, and have them all in place, you can just work on them a little bit and if they don’t work that you haven’t fully sketched, then give up and start over.
I’ve definitely always been an artist’s artist, or maybe a painter’s artist, so I’ve always had some experience with sketching. When I was a teenager, I used to sketch over a sheet of paper, and that had more of a drawing like feel, a way that you could actually put together two different things in the same area of space. I like sketching, and that’s what I’m doing here, drawing over a piece of paper. That’s not the most intuitive thing in the world, but it still works.
When you were a kid, you probably drew over a sheet of paper?
Yeah, I used to do a lot of drawing. I’ve always liked drawing, but it’s more of a side project for me as opposed to a main part of my business. I know how to get the most out of a piece of paper, I know how to get it finished, and that’s about it, so that’s what I’m doing here, drawing over a piece of paper. Then it’s just about working on some stuff with it.
You’re working on a project?
Yeah, on this concept artwork, so yeah, I’m working on it. I have some concepts I’ve sketched out and I’ve started on some other aspects. I have a concept for this album cover, and then I start working on the artwork in earnest. As I think about it and write down ideas, I’ll throw something in an envelope and email it back to Chris or whatever. I’ll email it with the name of the artist, and I might say, “Hey, I have something in there, or maybe something else.” Chris will respond and he’ll send it to me, and
