The car that you do do it for is your children. In my case, I want to draw my children. That’s the only time that I do it for work. I don’t like working at my desk. I like to draw my children.
I can tell you more about drawing children when you start reading this interview with me, but first, what’s the first memory that you have of the people who you are working with now, and why did you decide to work with them?
When I was a kid, my parents gave me a car, but I was not allowed to paint it because they didn’t understand color, so I thought I should make a car. My parents were so surprised that I did. My parents were so surprised. All the kids that were there in the studio were amazing, and it was just an all-day session. After that, this one guy was so nice that he bought me two more things. I was lucky he just paid a little more.
It’s just so nice to spend time with someone who understands you because you’re a creative. The hardest time when I’m working is just when I’m just sitting in front of the computer. I just don’t get excited, and when there’s excitement and it’s good, it’s so enjoyable. The most difficult part is when you’re standing there in front of your computer and you cannot get excited. It’s just not happening for me. I just want my work to be good. I feel I have to draw at the right time, but I can’t get it good for me.
So the challenge to draw young people is that they want to experience something very new?
Well, I think they just need to see an image and they can understand it. They are so clever, but they don’t understand what has a meaning. I always say, I want to draw people who just look at their work and want to learn. They have to be able to see and think.
Are you afraid to draw children in front of the camera?
Of course. It’s very hard to see what the people are seeing, you know? When I was a kid, when I was little I never understood what was happening. Now it’s like you’re an adult, and you can understand your work, for sure.
Does it mean that your children are not as different as you were? I’m sorry. Can I ask if you are a little nervous?
